ABB wins Pluto LNG equipment contracts

ABB’s scope of supply for Woodside’s $12 billion Pluto project includes switchgear, transformers, analyser systems, instrumentation, motors and machines, electrical network monitoring and control systems; along with three LCI variable speed drives for compressor applications.

The distribution transformers and switchgear packages are to be manufactured by ABB’s factories within Australia. The machines and motors, drives, instrumentation, electrical network monitoring and control systems and analysers are being supplied by the respective ABB equipment “˜Centres Of Excellence’, which are located across the globe.

ABB Account Manager Steve Hollyoak said “This is a very exciting project for ABB to be involved in, particularly as it is planned to be one of the fastest developed – from discovery to first gas – LNG projects in the world.”?

The company’s association with Woodside first began back in 1983, with the supply of switchgear and motor control centres. Our more recent involvement includes consecutive North West Shelf – LNG Train IV and Train V Expansion Projects. More recently it signed a low voltage and medium voltage switchgear frame agreement with Woodside.

The Pluto LNG Project involves construction of an LNG processing facility on the Burrup Peninsula with the gas transported onshore via a pipeline from the Pluto gas field, around 190kilometres northwest of Karratha in Western Australia.

Woodside’s project is the first new stand-alone LNG development in Western Australia for more than 20years. It is forecasted to produce 4.3 million tonnes per annum, which is expected to inject some $28 billion into the Australian economy over the 30 year life of the project.
