AGL rejects dam claims

AGL’s wholly-owned CSG Gloucester Gas Project is located in Gloucester Geological Basin in New South Wales and titled under Petroleum Exploration Licence (PEL) 285.

Sue Higginson, principal solicitor for the Environment Defenders Office in NSW told Fairfax media that AGL’s water irrigation trial license had expired on April 30 and the company had since storing that water on site.

However AGL spokeswoman Kathryn Lamond rejected the allegations saying the energy company has and continues to comply with its licence requirements and regulations.

“AGL Energy Limited’s ongoing coal seam gas exploration activities are all conducted with the appropriate approvals and licences,”? she told Gas Today.

“Project approvals for our exploration activities, such as the Gloucester Gas Project’s Waukivory Pilot and Tiedmans Irrigation Program (and associated water storage), are granted by the Division of Resources and Energy within the NSW Department of Industry, Skills and Regional Development.

“AGL has several REF approvals under PEL 285, apart from the expired Tiedmans irrigation REF approval, which allow for the ongoing storage of produced water from our exploration activities at our Tiedmans property, in Gloucester.

“The Waukivory REF, approved Surface and Groundwater Management Plan and approved Produced Water Management Plan all provide for the ongoing storage of produced water at AGL’s Tiedmans property.”?

The company added that it had invested into scientific studies and water and air monitoring programs, and reported the results publicly.
