Aurecon appoints new energy and resources MD

Engineering company Aurecon has appointed Alex Wonhas as the new global managing director to lead its energy and resources business.

Wonhas was previously executive director of CSIRO’s environment, energy and resources sector. He oversaw research, development and demonstration activities, as well as the commercialisation of a range of fossil, renewable and demand management energy technologies.

An advisor on energy security issues, Wonhas was instrumental in expanding the Gas Industry Social and Environmental Research Alliance nationally and bringing in AGL, Origin and Santos as additional industry partners.

Wonhas said he was impressed by Aurecon’s focus on innovation and building its advisory practice.

“Aurecon recognises the role it can play in driving change in the energy, resources and manufacturing sectors, and will be at the forefront of driving that change,” Wonhas said.

“I am excited by the opportunity we have to shape the future of our industries, help our clients become future ready by navigating disruption and maximise the total value of their assets and businesses.”

Aurecon’s global chief executive officer Giam Swiegers said the company was continuing to invest in leaders who provide not only eminence in their space, but have the leadership style, global mindset and courage to lead amidst ongoing disruption.

“Experts such as Dr Wonhas contribute subject matter expertise and advisory capability, which plays an important role in developing our global teams to meet clients’ most significant and changing challenges,”Swiegers said.
