Blue Energy puts forward solution to gas shortage

Blue Energy has been in discussions with the Australian and Queensland Governments to highlight the need for national energy infrastructure projects to ensure energy is delivered to east coast manufacturers and gas users.

This follows the Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) gas statement of opportunities (GSOO) March report, which projected long-term east coast domestic gas shortfall from 2023.

Blue Energy has put a spotlight on Queensland’s Bowen Basin as the largest onshore discovered gas resource that remains undeveloped and unconnected to the east coast gas market.

The company has stated that infrastructure projects are critical after COVID-19 and have proposed a single multi-user, 500km Moranbah to Gladstone/Wallumbilla gas pipeline that would be capable of delivering up to 300 terajoules (TJ) per day to the market and meet the short falls predicted.

As a result, Blue is assessing the potential for the development of gas fired peaking generating capacity in certain gas properties within its 100 per cent owned ATP 814 tenure.
