Critical energy state front of mind for APPEA 2017

APPEA Chief Executive Dr Malcolm Roberts sums up the key problem: “Australia urgently needs more gas supply and more gas suppliers to head off a domestic supply shortfall forecast for 2019.”?

This shortfall is driven by a range of issues that have pushed exploration for gas down to its lowest level since 2005.

The 2017 Conference offers a major opportunity to canvass the current state policymaking, as well as current thinking on how best to address a range of commercial, regulatory and technical developments.

APPEA Chairman Bruce Lake says the Conference is more important than ever in a year of critical importance for energy and climate policies.

“It’s important that industry professionals, analysts and policymakers attend this event to hear cutting-edge presentations on key energy issues,”? Mr Lake says.

“The Conference is also a great forum for networking, sharing ideas and discussing how policy frameworks can meet emissions reduction goals without impairing energy security.

“At a time such as this the Conference becomes more important than ever for industry members. This is a forum to point the way forward and to explore how we can best make our business stronger.”?

The theme for APPEA 2017 is “Energy in Transition”?. The program is designed to deliver up-to-date analysis of major issues along with a broad range of case studies and technical presentations.

APPEA 2017’s plenary and concurrent sessions will offer more than 100 presentations on topics ranging from project development to frontier basin prospectivity – and from environmental and safety management to updates on regulatory, tax and commercial issues.

The event’s opening session – Energy in Transition (8.30am, Monday 15 May) will feature Federal Minister for the Resources and Northern Australia, Matt Canavan; Woodside Managing Director, Peter Coleman; and APPEA Chairman Bruce Lake.

There will be 16 plenary presentations and 86 concurrent presentations. There will also be four panel discussions.

APPEA 2017 also features a 9,000 square metre Exhibition where more than 120 organisations will present their technologies and expertise.
