Distribution network for sale in NSW

Country Energy Gas Pty Ltd has been offered for sale to the private sector following a recent review of Country Energy operations, according to the company.

The sale will involve the 65 km of transmission pipelines as well as the 1,150 km of gas distribution pipelines in southern New South Wales. Country Energy has said that both its regulated and non-regulated networks will be included in the acquisition.

The company’s regulated network in Wagga Wagga delivers approximately 1.6 PJ of gas annually to over 18,700 customers on behalf of gas retailers. The Australian Energy Regulator recently made a final decision on access arrangements for the network, which will apply for the next five years.

The non-regulated networks deliver 800 GJ of gas annually to over 7,300 customers and are wholly contracted through arrangements with retailers. Areas covered by the non-regulated network include Tumut, Adelong, Gundagai, Culcairn, Holbrook, Henty, Temora, Walla Walla, Bombala and Cooma.

Country Energy said that interested parties have until 16 July 2010 to submit their expression of interest.
