Dräger develops new gas detector

The Dräger X-am 5000, 1 to 5-gas detector reliably measures combustible gases and vapours as well as oxygen and harmful concentrations of CO, H2S, CO2, Cl2, HCN, NH3, NO2, PH3, SO2 and Organic Vapours.

The detector’s practical, mobile phone design and light weight, make it comfortable for users to carry. Reduced to its essentials, the two button control panel and easy to follow menu system allows for intuitive use.

The longevity of the catalytic sensor and the expected lifetime of five years for the oxygen sensor are unique. Moreover, the detector is equipped with the latest miniaturised XXS generation of high performance electrochemical DrägerSensors which are faster and longer lasting than other sensors. It is also easy to exchange, upgrade or calibrate the sensors to other gases.

The detector is tough: remaining fully functional even after being submersed in water. The integrated rubber protection and shock-proof sensors ensure additional resistance to impact and vibration. Moreover, the detector is also insensitive to electromagnetic interference.

The optional external pump, which operates automatically with a flexible hose up to 20 metres long, makes it possible to use the detector for pre-entry measurements for tanks and shafts.

Users can carry out the functionality test of sensors or calibrations in a professional way using the Draeger E-Cal Automatic Test and Calibration Station or the Draeger Bump Test Station. These devices are easy to use and fast, results are documented automatically.

The Dräger detector is equipped as standard with a data logger for 1,000 hours of data storage. The data can be transmitted via infrared interface to a PC and analysed using the Dräger GasVision software which can also be used to customise reporting.

Gas inlets on two surfaces make it twice as reliable: the functional design ensures that gas can enter the instrument from the top and the front, so even if the Dräger X-am 5000 is accidentally put in a jacket pocket, it will still provide a reliable warning against gas hazards. In alarm situations, the detector can provide three different warnings – an audible multi-tone alarm, a visual 180 degree alarm and a built-in vibration alarm.
