Editor’s comment

Gas Today will follow these issues closely to bring you the latest updates (via our e-newsletter and website) and in-depth expert commentary through the magazine. The election topics will also be at the forefront of discussion at the upcoming FutureGAS Conference and Exhibition, to be held from 12-14 March 2013 in Brisbane.

If you are reading this before 12 March and have yet to register for the event, make sure to get in quick. This year’s event will feature a commercial and technical conference stream, buzzing exhibition, multiple networking opportunities including the Exhibition Opening Cocktails, the annual Gala Dinner and the FutureGAS Awards.

FutureGAS will also be the launch place of our newest publication – Australia’s Gas Leaders. Produced in partnership with the Australian Gas Industry Trust, this compendium features a detailed review of the four key industry sectors of exploration and production; power generation, micro-LNG and natural gas for transport; LNG and export; and gas transportation (transmission and distribution). Within these sections, leading industry players are highlighted, including QGC, Woodside Energy, ExxonMobil, and Shell. Make sure to grab a copy at the event. I would be interested to hear your feedback.

This edition of the magazine also features a number of interviews from leading players in the industry. BP Australasia President Paul Waterman shares his thoughts on the future of the gas industry; K&L Gates Partner Fiona Melville explains the legal considerations for companies wishing to exploit Australia’s shale resources; South Australian Executive Director – Energy Resources Barry Goldstein outlines the opportunities available in the state following the recently published Roadmap for Unconventional Gas Projects in South Australia; and FutureGAS speaker James Plumb discusses new legislation and regulation affecting gas exploration in Queensland.

Shell also shares the latest on its Prelude Floating LNG Project, and what this will mean for the broader Australian LNG industry.
