Energy giants to bid for SA gas plant

The proposed $360 million, 250 MW gas-fired power plant was announced as part of the state’s South Australian Power for South Australians energy plan earlier this month to ensure more of the state’s power is sourced, generated and controlled in South Australia.

Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis said a two-week expressions of interest process to build the plant would open tomorrow.

“The sale of the ETSA (Electricity Trust of South Australia) was the worst policy blunder in the history of South Australia and that’s why we need to make sure we have the ability to have a fast-start capacity to turn generation on when the national market fails us,” said Mr Koutsantonis.

The South Australian energy plan also involves the incentivising increased gas production to ensure more of the state’s gas is sourced and used in SA.
