First gas at Project Atlas

Located in the Surat Basin, Senex has drilled 11 wells since the project’s drilling campaign began in August this year, with the first four wells to be brought online now producing gas.

Approximately 60 wells will be drilled in this campaign and the announcement of first gas follows last week’s mechanical completion of the subsequent Atlas Gas Pipeline by operator Jemena.

Along with the 60 km pipeline, Project Atlas also includes a 15 PJ/a gas processing facility, with commissioning and start-up of this infrastructure anticipated for later this quarter.

Senex Managing Director and CEO Ian Davies called the delivery of first gas “an outstanding achievement”.

“The remainder of 2019 will be active and exciting as we bring more wells online, commission the gas facility and increase production to meet sales agreements commencing 1 January 2020,” he said.

Senex signed multiple supply agreements for gas from Project Atlas earlier this year, including with Queensland manufacturers CSR Limited, Orora and O-I.

Project Atlas is 100 per cent owned by Senex, while Jemena owns project’s pipeline.
