Oil and gas explorer Vintage Energy has announced that the fracture stimulation campaign at the Vali gas field has commenced.
The campaign will involve stimulating gas from the Patchawarra Formation, which expands across multiple zones in the Vali-2 and Vali-3 wells. Both wells are located onshore in the Cooper Basin.
Independent assessments of the Vali gas field have shown that proved and probable reserves of 101 PJ (gross) are present within the field. Production from the Patchawarra Formation will likely be supplemented by flows from the Toolachee formation.
The campaign is being conducted by Schlumberger and supervised by Griffin Energy Solutions. It is expected to last for approximately 42 days. Once all three wells have been completed, the gas produced will be sold to AGL under a sales agreement that was announced in March 2022.
The completion of these operations will allow the Vali gas field to be connected to Moomba gas gathering network at a later date, which is will subsequently increase the supply to the domestic gas market in eastern Australia.
Although the date of this project has not yet been confirmed, engineering is almost complete and materials and equipment are currently being procured. With the necessary tie-in agreements being finalised, operations are expected to begin soon.
