Gas mains upgrade for Yarraville

This $1 million replacement program will minimise possible supply issues and improve reliability and safety to more than 520 properties in the Urwin Street area.

SP AusNet Manager Gas Services Dean Comrie said the project to replace the existing gas network with high pressure modern polyethylene forms part of the company’s annual Gas Mains Replacement Strategy to replace low pressure gas mains.

“Once completed, we will see the designated low pressure mains upgraded to high pressure standard that will increase reliability and efficiency for our customers in this area,”? Mr Comrie said.

“Safety is always our main priority and biggest consideration…and we are working hard to reduce any inconvenience to the public and our customers,”? Mr Comrie said.

In 2011-12, SP AusNet will spend in excess of $10 million replacing aged low pressure gas pipes. This project is anticipated to be completed by end of October 2011.

The SP AusNet gas distribution network contains around 9,497 km of distribution gas mains and transports gas to approximately 590,000 customers across central and western Victoria. Over the past few years, SP AusNet has been working with the Victorian Government to supply and reticulate natural gas to regional Victoria.
