GE opens new oil and gas facility in WA

GE has opened a new oil and gas facility in WA to support subsea projects.

According to GE this “regional facility will support the offshore installation phase of the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG project”.

“The Broome location was chosen for its proximity to the offshore operation and to complement INPEX’s existing offshore support infrastructure in Broome,” GE said in a company statement.

“INPEX also has dedicated office space at the new GE facility.”

Speaking on its opening, GE Oil & Gas regional director for ANZ and PNG, Mary Hackett, said the establishment of the facility is a major milestone for GE’s business in Australia.

“GE has invested more than $800 million in infrastructure to support energy and power generation projects in Australia since 2005,” GE Australia and New Zealand president Geoff Culbert said.

A team of seven workers will operate out of the workshop facility, located in the Blue Haze industrial estate in Broome North.

The facility itself consists approximately 500 square meters of warehouse, 120 square meters of office space, and 4000 square meters of equipment hardstand area.

It was built by Broome-based Indigenous contractor H&M Tracey Construction, and completed in December last year.

The Broome GE team has already begun dispatching the first equipment to support the commencement of the first well in the Ichthys field.
