UQ researchers Dr Ingo Jahn and Dr Michael Heitzmann are collaborating with iPipe Services’ engineers to develop and field-test two devices for more efficient and cost-effective gas extraction.
Together they are developing an in-field compression system and a more economical and re-usable riser insulator solution, with $100,000 in funding secured from iPipe and the Federal Government.
Dr Jahn said a range of complex factors had to be taken into account during the development of the devices.
“Australia’s CSG fields are among the most challenging in the world,” he said.
“Managing the network in a safe and cost-efficient manner requires new maintenance methods and products that go beyond current industry standards.
“The output of 7,000 plus wells depleting at differing rates, the ageing network and increasing complexities in the network require new, innovative and safe flow management solutions.”
iPipe Services CEO Jamie Gabb said the project extends benefits well beyond gas production and construction.
“These new technologies will assist gas operators with low cost innovative solutions to enhance production and improve efficiency and safety in operation,” he said.
