LNG props up Queensland exports

The data, released yesterday, shows LNG shipments from the Port of Gladstone reached $849 million as at 30 June after only commencing export operations officially in January.

The promising LNG result was just of a number of sectors that performed well over during FY15 and helped the northern state to achieve a total merchandise export total of about $47 billion.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said it was good news for the state’s economy.

“Our manufacturers are also contributing to Queensland’s economic uplift, with manufactured exports rising 8.6 per cent to $3.0 billion in 2014-15,”? he said.

“This is a great reflection of the underlying strength and diversity of the Queensland economy.”?

The ABS data also noted that while most areas experienced bumper growth, Queensland mainstay export, coal managed an increase of just five per cent over the year.
