Mr Bailey is the State Member for Yeerongpilly and is a former Councillor for Moorooka ward.
The appointment follows the swearing in of new Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Saturday 14 February 2015, after Queensland Labor secured the 45 electorates needed to form a minority government in the state.
Of the 89 seats that make up Queensland parliament, Labor won 44 in the recent election along with the support of Independent Peter Wellington.
