McDermott wins Qatar FEED contract

Qatargas has awarded McDermott International a contract to deliver front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for Qatar Petroleum’s north field south (NFS) project.

McDermott reported that it has more than 30 years experience of executing projects in Qatar’s north field.

“We will leverage our experience and local resources to successfully deliver this project,” McDermott senior vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa Tareq Kawash said.

“As oil and gas field development continues in the region, we are poised to build on this initial work to further support Qatargas as they progress the subsequent phases of the NFS project.”

The contract scope includes the replication of five offshore wellhead platforms, with work beginning immediately.

The NFS project is expected to further increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 110 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 126 Mtpa.

In addition, Qatar Petroleum announced in April 2020 that the first phase of the project, the development drilling campaign for the north field east project (NFE)  would increase the state of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity from 77 Mtpa to 110 Mtpa.

First gas from the NFE project is expected by the end of 2025.

Minister of state for energy affairs, the president and CEO of Qatar Petroleum, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said the start of the development drilling campaign for NFE represented an important milestone to deliver its strategy to grow its LNG production capacity.

“The continued achievement of milestones, dedication of significant resources and making of substantial investments is proof that the NFE remains on top of our priorities and demonstrates our commitment to executing this mega-project,” he said.
