Membrane tank technology for Fisherman’s LNG

The technology was reviewed and approved by both the Hazardous Industries and Chemicals Branch of the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney General, and the Petroleum and Gas Inspectorate, which is part of the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy.

The company said that the approval marks a major step in the development licence process, and will help pave the way for early site works to commence on schedule in October this year for the tank foundation.

LNG Ltd managing director Maurice Brand said the technology could result in “a cost reduction of approximately $A100 million and a schedule saving of possible six months over a conventional nickel steel tank.”?

“The Gladstone project’s LNG offtaker, Golar LNG own and operate a number of LNG carriers which use the membrane storage system. The Golar Arctic is one such vessel that Golar LNG may use to ship LNG from the proposed Fisherman’s Landing facility,”? Mr Brand said.

In February this year, Golar LNG signed a Heads of Agreement with LNG Ltd for the full purchase of LNG output from the project.

The $A410.5 million Fisherman’s Landing project involves the construction of a 1.5 MMt/a LNG plant.
