Origin-al opinions on unconventional gas

“I want to comment on why the development of unconventional sources of gas has become so apparently controversial when the benefits of increased use of natural gas are so plainly obvious,”? said Mr King.

According to Mr King there are many misconceptions about the gas industry, particularly in relation to greenhouse gas emissions and fraccing chemicals.

Mr King said that the “continual references to release of toxic chemicals by opponents of CSG production is simply not informed by the facts.”?

“Origin’s fraccing fluids use 99% water and sand with small amounts of ten chemical additives. These ten additives are commonly found around the house including in toothpaste, cleaning products, soap and vinegar.”?

Mr King also discussed the role of gas in greenhouse gas emissions.

“For LNG export, greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation from base load gas are approximately half the emissions from conventional coal fired electricity generation,”? he said.
