Peter Reith to provide gas keynote address at Energy Networks 2014

2014 has witnessed a renewed focus on the pressures on domestic gas markets, with considerable uncertainty about the outlook for wholesale prices in the medium term. Australian gas distribution businesses serve more than 4 million households and businesses, and the impact of wholesale gas price volatility on domestic gas markets is critical to gas distribution networks and the customers they supply.

As Chairman of the Victorian Gas Market Study, Mr Reith has a unique perspective on the challenges facing the gas market, not only in Victoria, but nationally. He has publicly highlighted that there are big changes underway in the NSW, Victorian and Queensland natural gas markets, and suggested that significant decisions will need to made, based on fact and science.

Peter Reith was a senior Cabinet Minister in the Australian Government from 1996 to 2001 and then a Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development from 2003 to 2009.

Since 2009, Mr Reith has appeared regularly on television and in print media, as well as working with the US company, Bechtel.

Not known for being shy on the big issues, Mr Reith’s keynote address to the dedicated gas forum at Energy Networks 2014 is sure to be thought provoking.
