Woodside and Betchel have hosted an information session to give the Western Australian business community the chance to have its say on opportunities to support the Pluto Train 2 project.
Held in Perth, Karratha and Roebourne, Woodside explained its proposal of the brownfield expansion of Pluto LNG through the construction of a second gas processing train as part of the Scarborough to Pluto development.
Pluto Train 2 is set to have a capacity of about 5 million tonnes per annum. Woodside awarded (100 per cent funded) a contract to Bechtel in December 2018 to undertake front-end engineering and design for Pluto Train 2.
The contract also includes an option for Woodside to progress to a lump sum engineering, procurement, and construction contract for execute phase activities, subject to a positive final investment decision being made on the project.
In October, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA hosted prospective suppliers in Perth, with presentations from Woodside’s Pluto Train 2 project manager Robert MacKinnon, and Betchel WA’s manager social performance Mellissa Case.
Scarborough to Pluto is expected to deliver significant long-term benefits across Australia over the life of the project – the majority of which will be realised in Western Australia.
MacKinnon said through Woodside’s proposed Scarborough to Pluto development, he expected “peak construction workforce of almost 3200 in 2022”, and capital expenditure of “$15.8 billion in WA between 2019 to 2051”.
Earlier this month, supplier and community information sessions in Karratha and Roebourne saw around 30 businesses attended a Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry speed networking event to further explore contracting opportunities with Bechtel.
Case from Betchel WA advised contractors looking for work “to maintain a current, accurate profile on the carious business databases, including the ICN Gateway, used to advertise packages for Pluto Train 2”.
Woodside is targeting the final investment decision for Pluto Train 2 in the first half of 2020 and ready for start-up in 2024.
