Shell BG merger

Announced in April and stealing headlines ever since, the acquisition of the BG Group by Shell has passed through the five levels – most recently from Chinese Government, the ACCC and FIRB of approval unscathed – just to create controversy as Shell announced global employment cuts of 2,800.

Santos’ mixed year

It’s been a varied year for Santos, with its GLNG project beginning shipments and the appointment of Kevin Gallagher as the company’s new Managing Director and Chief Executive being surrounded by stories of job cuts and share price struggles.

The NEGI announced

The North East Gas Interconnector (NEGI), or Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP), contract was awarded to Jemena in November, to be constructed by McConnell Dowell, opening up the Northern Territory for gas extraction.

QCLNG and GLNG and APLNG commencement

Three major LNG facilities took large steps in 2015: the Queensland Curtis LNG became the first completed LNG export project in Australia in January; The Gladstone LNG project shipped its first cargo in October providing good news in a tough year for Santos; and the APLNG project began production in December.
