UQ launches onshore gas research directory

The University of Queensland has unveiled a new online directory that tracks onshore gas development in Australia and overseas.

The portal, developed by UQ's Centre for Coal Seam Gas, compiles historical, current, and planned projects in onshore natural gas geology, water, co-existence, and social and environmental impacts.

It comes as more than 400 research projects on coal seam gas and other unconventional gas developments are being carried out across Australia.

CSG Centre director, professor Andrew Garnett, said the directory will be a valuable tool for both researchers and the community at large.

“The directory makes it much easier for researchers to coordinate their efforts and maximise the value of their research, and until now it has been hard to determine how much research is being done on any particular topic, location or resource,” Garnett said.

“This will also provide community members with a single source to find up-to-date information on projects in their area.”

The directory is available here.
