Woodside awards Pluto contracts

Downer EDI has secured more than $70 million worth of electrical and instrumentation works for the project while Southern Cross Electrical Engineering won a $35 million contract for electrical and instrumentation works on a storage and loading facility.

AusGroup subsidiary AGC Industries has secured its sixth Pluto contract with a $34 million deal for the painting and insulation of onshore components. The scope of work includes the supply and installation of all insulation, cladding and ancillary materials; fabrication and application of cladding products; and, painting and fireproofing coatings of the storage tanks and associated utilities, pipelines and jetty facilities.

Woodside has also awarded dual contracts for Pluto trains 2 and 3 front-end engineering and design (FEED) to joint venture partners Foster Wheeler and WorleyParsons, and to Kellogg Brown & Root who are expected to complete the FEED studies in the second half of 2010.

Including the dual contracts, Woodside’s total costs for the FEED phase are estimated to be $100-150 million.

The initial phase of the Pluto project includes a single LNG production train at the Burrup LNG Park with forecast production of 4.3 million tonnes per annum (MMt/a). The train will be connected via a 180 km, 36 inch offshore pipeline to a platform in 85 m of water, which in turn will be connected to five subsea big bore wells on the Pluto field. A second and third LNG train are expected to be added, in addition to a domestic gas facility for the Western Australian market.
