Woodside, BHP and Chevron sign gas agreement with Alcoa

Beginning in 2020, the deals will see the three energy heavyweights supply 25 per cent of Alcoa’s gas requirements in WA from 2020.

While certain details of the deal have not been disclosed, Chevron will supply about 64 PJ of gas over the term of the agreement, while Woodside will provide up to 36.4 PJ.

Supply will come from facilities such as the North West Shelf, Pluto and Wheatstone and will fuel Alcoa’s Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup alumina refineries.

Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said the company was committed to providing gas to WA consumers.

“In addition to our foundation domestic gas business which supplies from the North West Shelf, Woodside will be able in coming months to deliver domestic gas from our Pluto facility and from Wheatstone,” he said.

“Alcoa is Western Australia’s largest user of natural gas and its three alumina refineries provide jobs and opportunities for thousands of people and businesses in the state’s southwest.”
