Woodside signs up Scarborough customer

According to the Australian, Perdaman’s proposed US$3.3 billion (AU$4.35 billion), 2 MMt/a urea plant on the Burrup Peninsula in the Pilbara region could be supplied with 125 TJ/d of Scarborough gas from the early 2020’s for up to 25 years.

“Supplying domestic gas from our portfolio will underpin a fresh wave of investment in the Pilbara region,”? said Woodside CEO Peter Coleman.

“Our Burrup Hub projects can support economic diversification of the region in the years ahead and ensure we are positioned to meet long-term global LNG demand.”?

Woodside recently completed the acquisition of ExxonMobil’s 50 per cent interest in WA-1-R off the coast of Western Australia, containing a majority of the Scarborough gas field.

Woodside now holds a 75 per cent interest in WA-1-R and a 50 per cent interest in WA-61-R, WA-62-R and WA-63-R.

BHP holds the remaining 25 per cent in WA-1-R.

These leases include the Scarborough, Thebe and Jupiter gas fields and are estimated to contain gross 9.2 Tcf of dry gas resources, raising Woodside’s Best Estimate contingent resources (2C) from 640 MMboe to 5,652 MMboe.

Discovered in 1979, the Scarborough field is located off the coast of WA, approximately 220 km northwest of Exmouth in 900 m of water.
